Beautiful deep ruby in color. On the nose, the wine is full of aromas of small red fruits. Racy, with a nice length in the mouth, this wine has great richness. Keep for up to 10 years. Delicious with meat in rich sauces, roast duck and most cheeses.
This is a powerfully ripe yet bristling, balanced wine full of sultry black-cherry and cassis flavors. Sourced from a vineyard located near the top of the Volnay slope, it's a weighty Pinot Noir accented by hints of smoke, sweet spice and graphite. While still firm in tannin, the wine is approachable young and will likely improve through 2030 at least.
A discreetly perfumed nose reluctantly offers up its cool and pure aromas of spiced plum, black raspberry and pretty floral nuances, especially violet. There is even better size, weight and mid-palate density to the more mineral-inflected flavors that culminate in a youthfully austere and relatively powerful finish. This needs to develop more depth but that should occur if allowed sufficient time in bottle. This is well-worth checking out provided you intend to cellar it for at least 7 to 8 years first. 91-93
From a parcel at the northern border of the climat, touching Taillepieds, comes the 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes, a medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated wine evocative of sweet red berries, spices, raw cocoa and forest floor. Built around bright acids and velvety tannins, it's a fine effort.
