The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva flows across the palate with notable finesse. This is a subtle, understated 2006 Riserva that impresses for its silkiness and polish. Deceptively medium in body, the wine has plenty of underlying depth and serious structure. Sweet red cherries, tobacco, dried flowers and sweet herbs are layered into the finish. This is a fabulous showing from Mocali. The 2006 Riserva spent 4 years in cask. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026. Antonio Galloni

Rich, with beef broth, soy and underbrush notes surrounding a core of plum. Broad and muscular, with dense tannins underneath. Fine length. Best from 2014 through 2025. 340 cases made.
