Superlative aromas of currants and flowers with hints of cedar. Medium-bodied with ever so polished tannins that give the wine extremely attractive length and intensity. Really goes on for minutes. Compact and cool. Try after 2024.
The 2017 Barolo Brunate shows an extra level of spice and dark fruit concentration in this vintage. The wine has a nicely developed savory side, yet its dark fruit aromas of cherry and cassis remain faithfully intact. There is ample structure and contouring, especially in the determined manner in which this wine wraps over the palate. Indeed, on final analysis, I believe this wine will be remembered for the firm and compact nature of its inner engineering.
Underbrush, new leather and camphor aromas mingle with pressed rose and a whiff of coconut. Firm and full-bodied, the savory palate shows both concentration and finesse, offering juicy Marasca cherry, raspberry compote, licorice and tobacco set against close-grained, assertive tannins that need time to unwind. Drink 2027–2037.
This is pure and rich, offering cherry, strawberry, floral and spice flavors. Remains balanced and lively as this builds nicely to the long, complex finish, which evokes a mineral element. Best from 2024 through 2045. 140 cases made.
The 2017 Barolo Brunate is an utterly beguiling wine and one of the highlights of the vintage. Rose petal, cinnamon, blood orange, spice and star anise give the Brunate striking aromatic nuance and a real feeling of exoticism that is so alluring. In 2017, the Brunate is translucent and simply haunting in its beauty. Iloved it. The Brunate is the smallest bottling of the Oddero crus. It is well worth the effort of seeking out.
