Category: 10 year old Port wine, 20% alcohol by volume
Soil: schists.
ClimateVarieties: A mixture of old vines (Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela).
Vintage: A blend of 10 year old wines.
Vinification: Highly traditional, in lagares, pressed by foot which allows the content of the grapes to be gently extracted in a very controlled manner.
Aging: In 600 litre casks (“pipas”).
Tasting: A rich amber colour with pale mahogany highlights, this 10 year old Tawny immediately reveals a superb aromatic palette, starting with notes of almond, walnut, figs, dried fruits, currants and candied orange, then develops toasted, woody and turpentine notes.
In the mouth it displays the same kind of complexity, with a deep, rich, concentrated structure underpinned by a glorious acidity It develops with great vigour and integrity towards a finish of exceptional length, leaving very elegant rancio flavours on the palate.
Pairing: Ready to drink now, it goes beautifully with lobster in sauce, a langoustine risotto, fish in saffron, or fresh goat’s milk cheese or a Comté cheese. Serve at between 10° and 12°.
