This blend of 50% Corvina, 30% Corvinone and 20% Rondinella shows depth and a nicely concentrated appearance. The Santi 2015 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Proemio shows good intensity and power with aromas of black fruit, spice, tar and smoked licorice. This release of 14,000 bottles delivers a classic interpretation of the vintage and of air-dried fruit.

Bay leaf, thyme, roasted black currants and black cherries jump out of the glass from the start. As the wine opens, aromas of pencil lead, coffee grounds and cocoa combine with the lush fruits. The palate is soft and silky with black-currant flavors taking center stage. Fine tannins and a dash of bright acidity support the wine on the finish. Jeff Porter

A medium-to full-bodied red with aromas and flavors of bright, ripe red fruit, together with undertones of clay and oyster shell. Firm and focused, this needs a little time to open up.
